The current shape of the city centre matches roughly the general aspect of the medieval town.
It was dédicated to Notre-Dame de l'Assomption and was classified Historical Monument on August 9th. The cathedral was built from 1867 and 1905 based on the plans of the architecte Chartes Laisné who found the balance between the Roman-Provençal and Gothic styles of the previous buildings. If was consecrated in 1895. Some housses located behind the cathedral and Place aux Herbes and Place Gavotte are the oldest of the downtown area.
The City Hall
The first community house was built in 1400 on the actual location of the City Hall.
Construction of the belfry which overhangs the building begun in 1400.
It was burnt down by the troops of the duke of Savoie and rebuilt following the designs of the architect Lechat and was completed in 1743 as the inscription in Roman nunerals under the balcony specifies.
The front facade and the internal staircase of the City hall were added to the inventory of Historical Monuments on November 29th 1948.
